1. Policy statement
Afrimed Link Ltd is committed to equal opportunity and to a diverse, inclusive organisation. We judge people on their skills, qualifications and conduct, and we serve patients from every community. This policy applies to employees, job applicants, contractors, clinicians working through the Platform, and everyone who acts on our behalf.
2. What we prohibit
We do not discriminate — directly or indirectly — in recruitment, onboarding, pay, training, promotion, discipline, the allocation of work, or the care offered to patients, on the grounds of:
- sex or gender;
- ethnic group, tribe, community or place of origin;
- religion or belief;
- political opinion;
- disability (Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018);
- HIV status, real or perceived (HIV and AIDS (Anti-Discrimination) Act 2014);
- pregnancy, maternity or marital status;
- age;
- membership or non-membership of a trade union (Labour Act, s.9(6)) or a professional body; or
- the circumstances of a person's birth (Constitution, s.42(2)).
3. Fair recruitment and clinician onboarding
- Roles are filled on merit, using job-related criteria set out in advance.
- Clinicians are admitted to the Platform on objective grounds only: a valid licence from their Nigerian regulator, verified identity, and good professional standing.
- We make reasonable adjustments in applications, interviews and onboarding for people with disabilities. Tell us what you need.
- We only ask about health or disability where it is needed to make adjustments or is required by law, and we treat the answer as confidential.
4. Pay and progression
We pay equally for equal work, without discrimination on account of sex or any other ground — the principle set out in the Constitution (s.17(3)) — and we extend this to work of equal value. Promotion is based on performance and capability. Employees on maternity leave are protected in line with the Labour Act.
5. Accessibility
- We aim for the Platform to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA, and we fix accessibility problems reported to us.
- On request, we will provide information in an accessible format, in line with the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018.
- Patients may bring a companion or interpreter to a consultation, and clinicians will allow extra time where needed.
6. Harassment and respect
Harassment, bullying and abuse — whether by staff, clinicians, patients or partners — are not acceptable, online or in person. This includes sexual harassment, offensive remarks about a person's ethnicity, religion or disability, and threats. We may remove anyone who behaves this way from the Platform.
7. Responsibilities
- Leadership is accountable for this policy and for providing the resources to carry it out.
- Managers apply it fairly in every decision they make.
- Everyone is expected to treat colleagues and patients with respect and to report discrimination they see.
8. Monitoring
We may invite staff and applicants to share diversity information to check that this policy works. Giving it is voluntary, it is kept separately from decision-making, and because it can include sensitive personal data, we only collect it with your explicit consent and report it in anonymous, aggregate form (Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, s.30).
9. Raising a concern
Report discrimination, harassment or an accessibility barrier to info@afrimedlink.com or through Contact & Support. We will treat it confidentially, investigate promptly and fairly, and protect anyone who raises a concern in good faith from retaliation. Employment disputes may also be taken to the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
We review this policy at least once a year.
